Houston Astro Orlando Merced helps other volunteers install fence covers at Settegast Park Ballfield located at 3000 Garrow Street in the Second Ward. On Monday, May 19, 2003, more than 110 volunteers lent a hand at the Grand Slam for Youth Sweat Equity Day, sponsored by Minute Maid and the Houston Astros. Adding fence covers was just one of many improvements made to the ball field on this volunteer work day.
Volunteers from Minute Maid, the Houston Astros and the local community install fence guards, weed and rake the out field at Settegast Park Ballfield located at 3000 Garrow Street in the Second Ward. On Monday, May 19, 2003, more than 110 volunteers lent a hand at the Grand Slam for Youth Sweat Equity Day, sponsored by Minute Maid and the Astros. Contractors and volunteers also tore down and installed new bleachers and dugout benches; added a flagpole; redrew and extended the infield; planted azaleas; and picked up trash around the rest of the neighborhood on this volunteer work day.
Senior VP and General Manager of Juices, Teas and Emerging Brands of Coca-Cola North America (which includes Minute Maid) Mike St. John and Astros President of Business Operations Pam Gardner raise the flag on the newly installed flagpole at Settegast Park Ballfield during Sweat Equity Day.
Volunteers plant azalea bushes around the newly installed flagpole.
Volunteers help haul away scrap metal from old bleachers being disassembled by local contractors.
James Coney Island provided lunch for volunteers - and a good excuse to take a break from the hard work. To cool off, everyone enjoyed ice-cold Minute Maid® Lemonade.
